The PGH Medical Foundation, Inc. (PGHMFI) Board of Trustees led by PGHMFI President Jose Bayani Baylon and immediate past president and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Greg Alvior were handed a plaque of appreciation by the PGH Director  last Katlaw Truck cdl classes in Austell offers a Class A commercial driver's license program that lasts three. August 14, 2013 as part of the annual recognition of donors and benefactors of the hospital.

 Baylon, in his remarks, acknowledged the great contribution of the hospital to Filipino society. He shared that the PGH is a beacon of hope – one that inspires others to also be PGH – People Giving Hope.

“You, the men and women of this great institution, are true heroes. You make a difference daily on the lives of the thousands of indigent Filipino patients who walk the halls of this great hospital everyday.” He said.

Donors including the foundation  were given special recognition in the simple ceremonies at the PGH-UPMASA Science Hall.

 

With thousands of indigent sick people passing through the doors of the country’s biggest tertiary hospital, the possibility of infection getting passed on through various media is not remote. Actually, it happens all the time.

PGH’s Hospital Infection Control Unit or HICU is tasked with effectively addressing and controlling the spread of infection from patient to patient, patient to staff, staff to staff, or staff to patient utilizing a number of ways that range from simple hand sanitation to more complicated procedures like post exposure prophylaxis.

Of course when you are in a government hospital and the demand for resource is perpetually high you can expect that the available resources are consistently inadequate.

Good thing there are people giving hope in PGH,

The PGH Medical Foundation recently turned over two (2) Ultraviolet Air Disinfectants (UVAD) to the HICU to help make the hospital safer and healthier for both patients and staff.

“The UVAD will help a lot in cleaning infection prone areas of the hospital as well as keeping infection sensitive areas like the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the nursery infection free. We are truly thankful to the Foundation,” said one of the HICU staff after the disinfectants were transferred to their care.

 

Chemotherapy is a critical procedure that gives many cancer patients hope. Unfortunately, it comes with an assortment of adverse side effects that can be quite dangerous themselves if not managed effectively.

Patients who go through chemotherapy may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills, abdominal cramps, pain, anorexia, constipation, fatigue and a host of many other symptoms that can really take a toll on a person’s will to survive.

Now imagine going through all these symptoms inside a hot and humid room that’s already uncomfortable for cancer-free individuals.

This was the unfortunate case at the Oncology Clinic of the UP PGH Cancer Institute before the PGH Medical Foundation came in and cooled things down with the purchase and installation of several brand new air-conditioning units for the clinic.

The Foundation, through funds generated by the “I AM PGH” campaign, secured two (2) inverter floor mounted air-conditioning units amounting to Php 173,765.00  and installed these at strategic locations within the clinic.

“Salamat sa Diyos at sa Foundation at lumamig na din dito sa clinic,” said one of the clinic’s charity patient after the new air-conditioning units were turned on.

The UP-PGH Cancer Institute (CI) was set up to provide comfort and quality care to cancer patients. In particular, the institute provides this care to indigent cancer stricken Filipinos. Institute gets at least 220 out patients daily and which maintains 51 beds that are alternately shared by patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Vivid and inspiring images of PGH – people giving hope and patients getting help set against the Philippine General Hospital background, went on display last September 27 as part of the “Cradle of Hope” Photo Exhibit at the Alabang Town Center in Muntinlupa.

The exhibit, organized by the PGH Medical Foundation in collaboration with the Ayala Alabang Camera Club (AACC), was set up to raise awareness about the plight of thousands of indigent Filipino patients that walk through the doors of the country’s biggest tertiary hospital.

“We wanted to bring stories of hope through these captivating images to as many people as possible so that we can drive more people to give hope (PGH),” explained PGHMFI President JB Baylon during the ribbon cutting ceremonies.

“We believe everybody can be a PGH. Through this exhibit we want to convey that it doesn’t really require much to be one.” He continued.

 

“Cradle of Hope” is one of the recent initiatives of the Foundation under the “I AM PGH” Campaign, a bold fund raising initiative to raise 100 Million Pesos (Php 100,000,000.00) for the hospital’s charity patients from 1,000,000 People Giving Hope by sharing P100 each.

…SHOOTING PGH

They shot patients, staff, guests, rooms, offices, hallways. They spared no one and nothing. They shot them all.

The shooters – members of the Ayala Alabang Camera Club (AACC), their weapons of choice – fancy cameras of all sorts and sizes, and their target – PGH, the hospital and the men and women, staff and patients who walk through its doors everyday.

The 40 strong AACC spent an entire day at the country’s premiere tertiary hospital last September 7, to take photos of the institution and its beneficiaries – indigent Filipino patients for the “Cradle of Hope” Photo Exhibit.

“A picture paints a thousand words so they say. That is why the Foundation partnered with these passionate and committed photo enthusiasts from Ayala Alabang – so that through their lenses, more people will get to know more about the conditions here at the PGH and consequently be inspired to do something to help.” PGHMFI President JB Baylon said.

“We had fun. We learned a lot. We got great photos. But more importantly we saw for ourselves how ordinary men and women just like all of us can become silent heroes and messengers of hope to the indigent patients of the PGH. It was truly inspiring,” said one of the AACC members.

“I believe our photographers captured these moments well. I hope we get to bring hope and drive more people to help as well.” The AACC continued.
